Why we can not use single type of cable to transmit all types of signals?


Que : Why we can not use single type of cable to transmit all types of signals?

OR

Can we use the same type of cable for all application, yes or no? if no then justify.

Answer :


No, we can not use the same type of cable for all types of applications.

Reason:

Because every applications are working on different frequency, for example MF for AM Broadcasting, HF for Telephone, VHF for Television. All these different frequencies have different characteristics in terms of amplitude, phase and frequency itself. 

Every different kind of cable is capable to transmit only particular frequency. If we try to use the same type of cable with the different frequency then it will have attenuation. Not all frequency can pass through the single type of cable, as they have different amplitude, power characteristics and phase/frequency characteristics. 

So different type of cable has been developed for distortion less transmission like coaxial cable is for video frequency, Optical Cable for high range optical frequency and Single core cable for electricity and other applications.
